Trauma Service Area V is the geographic area which lies at the southernmost tip of Texas. The area consists of four counties: Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy. Three counties share an international border with Mexico and two counties are adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico. There are 14 hospitals within the region, 12 of which are now trauma designated facilities. These include 2 ACS Verified Level I Trauma Centers, 1 ACS Verified Level II Trauma Center, 3 DSHS designated Level III Trauma Centers, and 6 DSHS designated Level IV Trauma Centers.
